John
- Owner/Director/Founder
Owner, director and founder of Fly & Dive. Started the company about 8 years ago after 28 years of being in the Navy.
Began to teach together with his wife and gradually expanded the business.
No longer teaching, he occupies himself with fixing everything his instructors break and repairing the customers gear. Tired of this, he jumps on his plane and hops the Islands. Needs coffee in the morning to fully function and a beer in the evening to sleep well.
Steve
- HSA Instructor #2577 - CD/EFRI/CFCI Trainer #179426
Specialties: Deep, Wreck, Drift, DPV, Boat, Naturalist, Navigation, Fish ID, Nitrox, Equipment, Multi level, Night, PPB, Search and Recovery, Aware, Coral Reef conservation, Photography, Digital underwater Photography, DAN Instructor Oxygen Provider, PADI Distinctive Oxygen First Aid, Gas Blender Enriched Air
Steve has been working for Fly & Dive since 2004
and can be considered as part of the furniture. After managing positions in hotels and restaurants he made his first dive in Aruba, while between jobs, on July 1st, 2001. Six months later he became instructor. Originated in Belgium he brings a Belgian touch to the Fly & Dive Team.
Besides driving his motorcycle and enjoying a cold Whisky-Coke and a cigar after work he also is in charge of the daily operations in the shop. And he is always busy.
Jack
Like his name says: Jack of all trade. Taking care of logistics and always ready with coffee in the morning, this is the person you'll probably encounter picking you up at your hotel. After 45 years in Holland, he left for Poland, Australia, Aruba, St. Martin and Aruba again. Likes his dogs and makes a mean casserole of Beans. Don't forget to ask about the recipe girls, since he knows how to cook. And yes, he also is single.
Being a pilot he takes the Fly & Dive literally and helps us out part time. Either driving the boat or teaching always in a cheery mood. Worked with John in the Navy and was living on Bonaire for some time. Capable of fixing anything, he is our 911 guy. Loved by the ladies and well known on the island, he can be described as our Flying Dutchman. And most of the time not single !!
As Freddy is a Flight instructor he is spending a year in China to teach some of their pilots.
Linda
- OWSI/EFRI/CFCI #232003
Linda started off with us as an open water diver. Taking all the continuous education she could, she ended up being an instructor before she knew it. Being the only girl and considered by the crew as our little baby we brought up, she brings the female touch to Fly’N Dive. Being very patient and sweet she is excellent with novice divers. She decided to make a career change after long hours in the IT world. Cool, now we have our own computer wiz, in case of... If she is single? ...
Marcel joined the team in 2007. Did all his diving in Holland, but decided that the Arubian waters were a lot nicer to teach in. With a background in real estate he is trying to sell all dive sites. Next to giving Scuba Instruction, you can also find him driving the boat. Not a beer, whisky or rum fan, he enjoys a nice cocktail.
Arie
He is the dive shops lifeguard. Joined the team at puppy age.
Loves to sleep and not to be bothered. Always friendly, keeps up the name of friendliest dive shop on the island.
And last but not least, also single!
Crew 2008
Great time with the Crew on the Bugaloe Pier!! January 2008! Thanks Willem you are still our favourite Freelancer!!
Free-lancers:
Once in a while the crew needs reinforcements. These people help us out when things really start to get crazy. You might encounter them while diving with us.
Willem
- DM/EFRI/CFCI #971126
Our Flying Dutchman. Willem is an old friend of the dive shop. Coming down on Aruba for diving two, three times a year, he finally realized that taking some of the continuing education programs can be beneficial. Becoming a rescue diver was the first step. Becoming a DM was the next and now he is combining his vacation with his passion. He loves to educate people to dive in a correct way, and although not his goal, we in the shop see him become Instructor sooner or later.
Tristan
- Rescue diver
This young fellow, while still attending school, was looking for a side job.
In return he was able to become a diver: Started off with open water, then advanced open water and Rescue diver.
As he still has to wait a couple of years before becoming a DM, (due to the min age of 18) you’ll find him helping out with all kind of things.
Only available certain days in the week and school vacations, he is a valuable asset to us.
Gary
- OWSI #187997
The whole crew previously consisted of Europeans. We now have a strange duck in the pond. Gary, as most of the crew, started off his courses with Fly’N Dive while vacationing on Aruba, decided to spend a longer time on our Sunshine island.
Also trained over the past years by our staff, he radiates tranquility which is seen while teaching and diving. Earned a PhD in Chemical engineering and worked in the oil industry, we are still wondering were we can use his expertise. Spending the summer time back in the States, guiding people in the Glacier National Park or Yellowstone National park, he has the best of both worlds.
